Through Her Eyes: Women of the Indian Heartland
Discover the untold stories of resilience, strength, leisure and everyday life of women in rural India through the lens of Khabar Lahariya, India’s only women-run digital rural media network. For over two decades, Khabar Lahariya has been amplifying the voices and documenting the stories of everyday people in areas that are completely out of the spotlight of media attention. This photo exhibition will offer a compelling glimpse into the multifaceted lives of rural women, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar. Captured by Khabar Lahariya reporters, who hail from the same rural geographies as the women in their photographs, provide an intimate perspective on womanhood. The photographs chronicle the diverse roles of women across various settings – working in the fields and construction sites, fetching water, collecting firewood, dancing at weddings, bonding over YouTube videos with friends, and moments of camaraderie and quiet reflection. Through this exhibition, we aim to highlight their nuanced identities, visibilise them beyond a monolith identity of being a rural woman.
