Fighting Beyond the #MeToo Movement – Strategies to advance Feminist Positioning in Formal Institutions of Justice in the Pacific region

by Fiji Women's Rights Movement (FWRM)
Day 1 11am 2 hours English

The right to live and work free from any form of violence and harassment is accorded to everyone irrespective of one’s sex, gender and/ or socioeconomic background. Despite this provision in place, many women experience violence and harassment in the world of work.

Globally, more than one in five people have experienced violence in the form of physical, psychological, or sexual harassment at work. Women are disproportionately affected by workplace sexual violence and harassment, with more than 8 per cent experiencing some form of harassment or violence compared to 5 per cent of men (UN Women).

Global advocacy such as the #MeToo movement have raised their voices against this phenomenon, calling for real change to achieve safe, healthy and respectful work environments for all women. It is present in all jobs, occupations, and sectors of the economy in all countries across the world. Women are particularly affected because of employment status, the type of work they carry out, or because of the conditions in the sector that they work in.
